These terms apply when you order books from, or use the website of, The Paperville City Publishing House (“Paperville”, “we”, “us”). By placing an order or creating an account you agree to them. Questions? Write to hello@thepapervillecity.com.
1. Orders
- When you place an order we email you a confirmation with your order reference. That email confirms we received your order; the sale is complete when we confirm availability and your payment is received.
- Prices are shown in Nigerian naira (₦) unless we say otherwise. We may correct an obvious pricing error and will contact you before going ahead.
- Please check your name, email and delivery address carefully. We cannot be responsible for delays caused by incorrect details.
2. Pre-orders
A pre-order reserves a copy of a book that has not yet been released. The pre-order price may be lower than the price after release. We will email you if the release date changes. You may cancel a pre-order for a full refund at any time before we dispatch it.
3. Payment
- You choose your payment method when you order: card or bank transfer through our payment partners (such as Paystack or Flutterwave), or crypto.
- You do not pay on the order form. We email secure payment instructions, and your order is processed once payment is received.
- Crypto payments must be sent in the exact coin, on the exact network and to the exact address we provide. Crypto transfers cannot be reversed, so please check every detail before sending.
- We never ask for card numbers or passwords by email or chat. Only pay using the links and details sent from hello@thepapervillecity.com.
4. Delivery
- We deliver printed books to the address you give us. Delivery fees and expected delivery times depend on your location and are confirmed in your order email before you pay.
- Delivery times are estimates, not guarantees, and can be affected by couriers and events outside our control.
- Risk in the books passes to you on delivery.
5. Returns, damaged items and refunds
- If your book arrives damaged, misprinted or is not what you ordered, email us within 7 days of delivery with your order reference and a photo. We will replace it or refund you.
- Because books are physical goods, we do not accept returns for change of mind once an order has been dispatched, unless required by law.
- Approved refunds are sent to the original payment method (or, for crypto, to a wallet address you confirm) within a reasonable time after we approve them.
6. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your password private and for what happens under your account. Please give accurate information. We may suspend accounts used for spam, fraud or abuse.
7. Manuscript submissions
- You keep the copyright in everything you submit. By submitting you allow us to read and assess it for the purpose of considering it for publication.
- Submitting a manuscript does not guarantee a response within a set time, an offer to publish, or any particular outcome. Any publishing agreement will be a separate written contract.
- Only submit work that you wrote or have the right to submit.
- We keep your submission confidential and will not share it outside Paperville without your permission, except with providers who help us run the site (see our Privacy Policy).
8. Book club and community
Please be kind and respectful in anything you send us. We may remove content or members who are abusive or unlawful.
9. Letters service
- You can ask us to send a letter, by email or in the post, to someone you choose. Prices for each kind of letter are shown when you make the request. Posted letters include postage within Nigeria; other destinations are quoted separately.
- Buying a copy of our book from us gives you one free letter for each copy once your payment is confirmed. Copies bought elsewhere may include a code to claim the same. Each code works once. Free letters have no cash value and cannot be transferred.
- If a letter needs payment, we begin once payment is confirmed. We may suggest changes to the wording. A team member reads every letter, and we may decline a letter that is threatening, harassing, hateful, deceptive, unlawful, or sent to someone who has asked not to hear from us. If we decline a letter, a free letter is returned to you and any payment is refunded.
- You may cancel a letter before we have begun working on it. After that, please write to us.
- You are responsible for the content you send and for having the right to share the recipient’s details. We cannot guarantee when a message is read or that a courier will reach every address.
- A recipient can ask us to stop at any time at thepapervillecity.com/stop.
10. Our content
The site, our name, logo, designs, cover art and book content belong to Paperville and the respective authors and artists. Please do not copy or reuse them without written permission.
11. Our responsibility
We take care to keep the site accurate and available, but it is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total responsibility for any order is limited to the price you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits your legal rights as a consumer or any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Privacy
How we handle your personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy.
13. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms and will change the date above when we do. Orders are governed by the terms in force when you placed them. These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
